Meet Our Director
The Burundi American International Academy (BAIA) welcomes you to our school’s webpage. We are celebrating the start of nineth year of educational excellence. BAIA is an independent, college-preparatory school following an American curriculum. We provide a rigorous academic and co-curricular education in English that prepares students of diverse backgrounds to reach their full potential and become successful global citizens. We are accredited by the Burundi Ministry of Education and by Cognia Global Accreditation Commission which provides BAIA with a nationally recognized mark of quality. Cognia is the largest accrediting agency in the United States and I believe worldwide.
We work to inspire Excellence Compassion, Integrity, Responsibility, Respect and Passion as our values and beliefs for all students. We encourage our students to realize their full potential as individuals and to be active contributors in the Bujumbura and global communities. The diverse composition of our student body stresses respect and celebration for human collaboration among our student population. This rich environment enables students to take responsibility for their learning, behavior and maturity.
To complement and balance our academic curriculum we have a variety of additional activities including: Student Council and Community Service which all develop skills enhancing student’s success and leadership. Other activities we offer are Chess, African Drumming, Music, French Drama, Writing Club, Burundi Dance, Art, Technology Club, Table Tennis, Environmental Issues Club, Yearbook, and World News and Current Affairs. Our school offers sports such as soccer, basketball, and volleyball. Participation in these group activities build teamwork and confidence which needed to advance in our ever-changing world.
BAIA’s motto “Knowledge, Passion and Excellence” represents the objectives of our college preparatory program. A multi-lingual and cultural student body, an extremely talented, and dedicated multi-national faculty, and a supportive parent community gives our school a feeling of family.
